■ Period of Cing reign, 1683~1895

Reign:
When Koxinga's successor surrendered to Cing court, there were many arguments about Taiwan's position. Finally they came up a conclusion that Taiwan belonged to Cing court and under Fuchien Province as Taiwan Fu. After that, Taiwan was governed by Cing for 210 years.

Since the beginning of Cing' reign, Anping's imortance dropped down and became a district of Fongshan County. In 1721, Chu Yi-Gui captured Taiwan and in May, Cing court sent armies to Taiwan and landed at Luermen. The residents of Anping help those armies to suppressed Chu's rebellion so Cing court renamed Anping Village to Siaojhong Village in 1722 meaning loyal to Cing Dynasty. After Anping were back to Cing count, it was still an military station and many offices of local government stayed here.

In middle of Kanghsi reign, Anping harbor was as wide as to hold thousands of ships but when during Jiaqing reign, The book of Taiwan county history said that giant ship can not enter into the harbor. In 1822 summer, the thunderstorm caused Zengwen River bursted and plenty silt silted Anping and Taijiang formed a land. Anping was connected to Tainan during this period and this affected Anping's importance of military and commercial port.

In 1731, Cing court renewed the administrative area and Anping was again conducted by Taiwan County.

In 1858, with Tianjin Treaty signed by Cing, the British and the French and stated that Tainan should be opened as a treaty port to foreign ships. After Anping harbor open, foreign businessmen and missioners can immigrate to Taiwan legally. The commercial affairs and administration offices increased so that consulates and foreign merchant houses also increased. Further more, hospitals, book stores were come to Anping street.

In 1864, Anping Customs established. Since the opening of the Anping Harbor open, every countries expanded their power and had great influence in Anping residents' life. Not only contacting with west culture by rapidly internationalization but also the discrepancy between them for life style and culture habit. Many conflicts happened and caused injuries, deaths and goods damages.

In 1874, Japan invaded Taiwan and Cing court curt sent Shen Bao-Jhen to reinforce Taiwan's coast defence. Shen built Anping Fortress (it's present "Eternal Golden Castle"). Before Japan took over Taiwan, Anping fortress exerted its power to attack Japanese warships.

In 1885, Taiwan was promoted to the state a province. Liou Ming-Chuan set Taiwan Fu in Taichung and Tainan was named as Tainan Fu and managed Anping county. This new arrangement was unchanged until Japan took over Taiwan.

Military and Religion:
"A small land oversea, can not enlarge China's territory".But due to its different life style from China, Cing court prohibited people to sail to Taiwan. However with the economy advantage, Han people came to Taiwan frequently. Since Taiwan's life style was much different from Han people, Cing Court settled a military center in Taiwan. With that they were hoping to avoid European countries from attacking China.

Chu Yi-Gui case offended Cing's ruling power in Taiwan. Hereafter Cing built Tiehou Temple and officer temples to stand up their power. The Military attitude also transferred to emphasize on both defend and attack, especially in Tainan.

At that time, Anping had Taiwan Navy Troop. Because those navies were from China, in order not to have them settle down in Taiwan, they had to rotate every 3 years and did not allow their wife or parents to come with them. Therefore those soldiers who were from the same village built their temple and named it according to their military camp. Those temples became their meeting place. "Ti-Biao Guan", "Feng-Huo Guan","Ming-An Guan","King-Men Guan" and "Hai-shan Guan" together as "five hostels of Anping". Later with worse and worse military discipline these 5 hostels was getting declined. By now only Han-sham Hostel exists. Both those five hostels and Navy Troop were concrete implements that showing Cing court's power in Taiwan.

Meanwhile Han people immigrated to Anping with their original belief and their own settlement. Numerous Han immigrants divided into 6 groups: Haitoushe, Gongaweishe, Wangchensishe, Miaoshougonshe, Shiergonshe and Huiyaoweishe. More than 20 temples were in these 6 groups and each of them had different main temples. Their dwellings were also very special such as short and narrow door and wall, Sword-lion to ward off the evil, Shining wall, Knife & Sword Shield, colorful decoration and safeguard goods plus the temples located in every village as well as the narrow and curved lanes formed to the particular construction of Anping.

Literature:
Besides reinforce Taiwan military, Cing court encouraged the literature's development. The first Principal of Taiwan Jiang Yu-Ying paid special attention to the education and instituted academies. In 1684, he built academies for classical studies in Anping County. And as time went by, scholars and poets gathered here. The most popular topics they used for creation were Anping.
