Using the most up-to-date scientific equipment and most stringent excavation methods, the study of the Fort Zeelandia has the following aims:
  1. Using radar to detect any structural remains underneath Fort Zeelandia, in order to understand how the building structures are displaced and to search for the existence of what the legend described as underground tunnels.

  2. Using the trial excavations to determine the existence of old walls of Fort Zeelandia and its size and scale, and to explore the historical meanings of the site and to discuss on the need to excavate the entire wall foundation.

  3. Through the excavation process, to build a platform for education by opening the site for school visits and thus makes their history lessons more lively.

  4. Co-operating with the "National Anping Harbor Historic Park" Project, to offer the educational plate form for tourist to visit and thus add to the values of the park.

  6. Through the excavation process, observe the earthquake phenomenon during the Dutch occupation years. Then taking a sample of Fort Zeelandia's wall materials and analyze its composition for future maintenance of the historic site.

  7. As more findings are revealed to the public, experts and academics will be invited to research and discuss the meaning of the discoveries. This will help to explain more clearly Taiwan's place during the Great Age of Explorations, thus let the Taiwanese people understand more of Taiwan's history.

  8. Using the trial excavations as a basis for reviving the historic site and plans for the site's commercial management.

  9. Using the trial excavations and in combination with scientific research in archaeological technologies, build a new model for the protection and maintenance of cultural historic sites.

  10. Opening the site for public visits so as to make archaeology and historic site maintenance an open process for all.

To achieve the above goals, the project will be split into 3 parts to be executed at the same time:
